Our Legacy

Conceived in 1953 during the nascent development of independent India, the hospital is the product of a charitable trust created by the distinguished Sawhney family, led by Lala Ishwer Das Sawhney, in memory of their ancestor, Lala Tirath Ram Shah. The early vision was to deliver accessible healthcare to a rapidly growing Delhi, particularly benefiting individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Upon its founding, Tirath Ram Shah Charitable Hospital emerged as a pioneering institution in the private charitable sector of Northern India. Esteemed medical personalities such as Col. V. R. Mirarjkar, Col. Ameer Chand, and Rai Bahadur Dr. Mathura Das Pahwa played fundamental roles in establishing the hospital’s reputation for clinical excellence. Over the decades, the hospital has consistently upheld its founding mission: providing holistic care to all sections of society, irrespective of financial means.

Commitment to Service

For nearly seven decades, Tirath Ram Shah Hospital has remained committed to delivering comprehensive and integrated medical services under one roof. Our expert team of highly qualified doctors and support staff strive for the highest standards of medical excellence. Revenue from private admissions is used to subsidize care for approximately 25% of patients who may not otherwise afford treatment, ensuring that financial constraints are never a barrier to receiving quality healthcare.

Overcoming Challenges

The hospital’s journey has not been without challenges. Following the nationalization of the insurance sector in 1956, the hospital building changed ownership, yet the commitment of the trust and the support of the Life Insurance Corporation of India enabled continued service from the same premises for over six decades. During the 1980s and 1990s, the hospital faced substantial hurdles due to the rapid evolution of medical technology and infrastructure. In recent years, under the visionary leadership of Mr. Dhruv M. Sawhney and with support from Triveni Engineering Industries, the hospital has undergone significant modernization, including facility refurbishment and the acquisition of cutting-edge medical equipment.

Centers of Excellence & Education

Our dedication to education and training is exemplified through accreditation by the National Board of Examinations for the DNB Program in Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Our stellar pass rate underscores the hospital’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals. Plans are underway to expand accredited training programs, further contributing to the nation’s pool of qualified medical specialists.

In addition, the trust established one of Delhi’s earliest nursing training centers, which remains a prestigious facet of our institution. Substantial support, including highly subsidized boarding and lodging, is extended to nursing students from modest backgrounds, reaffirming our commitment to inclusivity in healthcare education.

During
Sustainability & Safety

Long before environmental consciousness became a mainstream priority, Tirath Ram Shah Charitable Hospital embraced sustainable practices. The hospital operates a certified effluent treatment plant, utilizes residual materials for agricultural purposes, and features a robust rainwater harvesting system spanning the entire rooftop. Our verdant campus, both within and surrounding the hospital, is evidence of our commitment to a healing and eco-friendly environment.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all patients and staff, comprehensive fire safety measures, including advanced detection systems, alarms, rapid evacuation protocols, and water sprinklers, are fully implemented.

Our Vision
To establish Tirath Ram Shah Charitable Hospital as a leading secondary care center in multiple specialties and as a center of excellence in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Pediatrics at the tertiary care level.
Our Mission

We are dedicated to serving both the underprivileged and affluent segments of society by providing high-quality healthcare services at affordable costs. Continual advancement of our facilities and patient care standards remains central to our mission, ensuring care that compares with the best in the field.

Guided by timeless values and the philosophy of selfless service, Tirath Ram Shah Charitable Hospital continues to be a beacon of hope and healing, true to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita:
“ Karam Kar Phal Ki Chinta Mat kar”

(Perform your duties without attachment to the outcomes)

This guiding principle continues to inspire the hospital's staff and management in their selfless service to humanity.

For more than six decades, Tirath Ram Shah Charitable Hospital has stood as a symbol of hope, healing, and humanity—continuing its mission with renewed strength, modern capabilities, and an unwavering heart for service.
